In our attempts to balance the Ph and hardness of the water in our aquarium, we decided to try using a different substrate. Since we have live plants, we decided on a fluval brand kind that’s meant to promote happy plants and lowers the Ph of the water. It took a very long time to empty the aquarium of everything, remove the blue rocky substrate, rinse and put in the new substrate, refill with water, place the caves, replant the plants, and then finally put the fish back. Despite the hours the fish had to spend in a 5 gallon bucket, they seem much happier now than they did before. Their colors are much more vibrant and are such fun to watch chase each other :)
Normally I’d like to help with cleaning the aquarium, but Brandon likes to take charge of it himself. So I busied myself doing 4 loads of laundry(and there’s still a 5 load that I’ll be doing tomorrow). It’s amazing how much laundry two people can accumulate. I can’t begin to imagine what it’s like when you have kids >.<
Otherwise I’ve been getting back into my crafty groove. I’m slowly ploughing through my yoshi/kirby cross-stitch and have started doing some embroidery. The picture below is a pattern that was offered for free over at Wild Olive. The lovely lady who runs Wild Olive is doing a series on embroidery basic and offered this pattern as an exercise for practicing some basic stitches. Basic or not, it was really fun to do and I have a couple of ideas to elaborate on it. But I’ll save that for another post somewhere in the future.
