Healthy Habits: #2

I am super excited for this spring/summer/fall. As part of my getting fit plan, I’m going to be signing up for a race in June. It’s the Ridge Ramble Biathlon and will be my first real race…ever! It’s a 10km bike ride followed by a 5km run. The route is a 5km loop around town that you repeat 3 woman-runningtimes. Having something to work towards will definitely help in the motivation department.

My goal? To finish.

Physically, running is still not 100% there for me…yet! Already I’ve noticed an increase in my stamina(providing I’m well warmed up) and I find myself wanting to go for longer distances. I’m definitely no pro, but I like to think I’m off to a good start. But then, I suppose any start is a good start.

The main things I need to worry about is my shins and knees. Growing up the tendons and muscles in my knees formed a little awkwardly, so now they are a little more sensitive than I’d like. I was told that providing I don’t overdo it, that they’ll strengthen as I go. I guess this is where I find out if that will be the case. As for my shins…well, they just aren’t used to working much and get really sore really easily.
