Self Discovery: Post 1

Being in Tumbler Ridge has had many ups and downs. The big up for me has been that through all the alone time, I’ve been able to discover quite a lot about myself. My self discovery posts will be a reminder that despite all the bumps in the road, I’m able to come out at the end having learned something valuable about myself.

********************************************

When Brandon and I were first married I was a physical wreck. Weight wise, I was at my all time heaviest (170+ lbs) and suffered from chronic back pain. Despite wanting to do things for myself, physically I just couldn’t do much. A month after our wedding I went to Vancouver to have a reduction surgery which would help reduce my back pain and allow me to participate in activities that I wasn’t able to before. Unfortunately I’d have to wait nearly a year before I could reap the benefits of my surgery.

Our first year of marriage I relied heavily on Brandon to do man-ly things. Moving furniture, carrying groceries in from the store, shovelling snow, etc. I felt bad for being so “lazy” and it took me a while to fully accept that it wasn’t something I was doing on purpose. Healing was probably the most difficult thing for me to do.

Fast-forward to today. I move furniture around. A few minutes ago I moved the treadmill from one end of the apartment to the other. No easy feat when the easy way to move it wouldn’t allow it to fit through the doorway to the spare room. When Brandon doesn’t feel like moving furniture I’ll wait until he’s a work and do it on my own.

The point of all this? I’m a lot stronger than I give myself credit for. It’s a pretty good feeling to know that while I have Brandon to take care of things, I’m capable of dealing with a lot on my own. And when you’re as impatient as I am, it’s a very good thing.

Yay! and I'm also really impatient. XD If I want to do something right now and Aaron doesn't then I do anyway. I moved everything in the sewing room by myself including that old heavy TV. Yay for lever system ^.^
When Aaron and I where moving everything around for re-arrangements he was going to wait till a strong dude came to our place to move the toolbox but I helped him move it without emptying any tools, it was hella heavy and gave my finger a nice imprint >.< but we got it done!
When I use to live by myself in Vancouver I would also build my own shelves to fit interesting nooks and such. It always feels awesome to accomplish something even if its small. :)

My old sewing kit has been organized and labels finished for all the screws and nails and such, it looks very neat and easy to locate things ^.^
